Sam Cochran

Sam draws inspiration from the natural world and applies its principles to innovative solutions for everyday life. From inventing solar-powered ivy to award-winning product designs, Sam is relentlessly driven to find the ideal intersection of performance and aesthetics. 

Sam has been a TEDx speaker, was featured in the New York Times Year of Ideas 2009, is in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art, and was named one of Forbes' “30 under 30” for Art and Design. He founded SMIT, a sustainable innovation company, and also has experience in commercial design through consumer-facing brands like Rejuvenation and West Elm. 

Sam is fluent in Inventor, Solid Works, Rhino, Grasshopper (and additional plugins), Arduino, Catia, AutoCAD, IES, Adobe Creative Suite. 

Sam lives in Portland, Oregon with his wife, young sons, and dog Odin.
